A charming detached cottage sleeping up to 4 people in glorious countryside and set in a delightful private cottage garden yet only 3 miles from the lively town of Chepstow, described as the true gateway to Wales. A rural retreat without being isolated.

Monmouthshire Cottage lies in the village of Itton located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Nestled between the Wye Valley, Vale of Usk and Forest of Dean with easy access to the M48, M4 and M5 motorways. It is in an excellent position for exploring some of the most picturesque countryside, historical sites and varied outdoor activities of Wales and England. The major cities of Cardiff, Bristol, Bath and Gloucester can all be reached in less than an hour.

The Cottage

2 bedrooms, one double the other single and both have plenty of room for a comfortable ‘put you up’ for the 4th person. Each room is bright and airy with fantastic views to wake up to.

The lounge is very spacious. The wood burning stove is one of the main features of the room, together with a vintage wind-up gramophone (with a few 78’s thrown in) which can be played if you’re feeling nostalgic! The room is furnished with antique furniture and has a traditional comfortable home from home feel about it.

A fully fitted kitchen with all modern electrical appliances and a breakfast table to seat 4. A couple of bone china tea sets, linen tablecloths that complete the vintage look.

Outside

The property has it’s own delightful 1/2 acre private cottage garden. Lovingly tended it has an abundance of traditional roses and flowers, a lawn and a grassed area in an old orchard which is large enough to kick a football about.

Facing south, the patio is an enjoyable place to sit and relax and take in the lovely views that surround the cottage.

Those added little touches

A pair of binoculars are on hand to view the ever present wildlife. Numerous birds in the garden and buzzards are often seen soaring above the woods and valley. You may catch a glimpse of the cheeky squirrels that steal the bird food and badgers visit at night, evidence of which is shown by the holes that appear in the lawn!

There is an outside tap useful for washing boots and bikes.

The owner is a keen walker and can provide local maps and walking guides. By prior arrangement, transport to and from start/finish points can be provided. If walking the Offa’s dyke or The Wye Valley walk, baggage transport to their next accommodation can also be arranged. Cost is additional and negotiated with the owner.

Paperback books can be borrowed and even taken home if unfinished. All that is asked is that they are replaced with a book that you no longer need. It makes for an interesting collection.

Logs for the woodburner are supplied for the first fire, after that they can be purchased from a number of local suppliers.
