We are dedicated to the well-being of your animals, and actively promote that all-important preventative healthcare, to help keep them healthy and happy. As pet owners, we know just how difficult it can be when your animals are poorly, so are always available for advice, guidance or a little reassurance when required. Along with our 24 Hour Emergency Service covered by Westwood’s own vet team, you can feel confident that you and your animals, will receive our personal care and attention every day of the year.

At Westwood, you will find excellent facilities and a wide range of services, all of which assist us in providing comprehensive veterinary care for the health of the animal community.

Boston Spa is our main branch and houses major equipment to perform more specialist procedures and investigations, whereas our Garforth surgery is able to cater for ‘day patients’ and routine procedures only. Microchipping

It is very sad when a pet goes missing, and devastating to the owner if they are never found. Microchipping is a permanent means of identification that helps to happily reunite lost pets with their owners. A tiny chip, with an I.D. code unique to you and your pet, is injected under their skin and holds details that are stored on a central database, which is accessible 24 hours a day. Scanners are held by various rescue centres, dog wardens and veterinary practices, and used to read the details to identify the lost animal. This service is available at any stage in your pet’s life, and just a routine appointment is required.

PETS Passport

If you are considering taking your pet abroad for the first time, it is easy to prepare and obtain the passport for your pet to travel. We are here to help you both through the process. You will need to allow 21 days from microchipping and the rabies vaccination before reentry into the UK. So depending on your own personal plans, please take this into consideration before booking any tickets and embarking on your travels. Contact the surgery for more information or visit www.defra.gov.uk

Routine Vaccinations

Vaccinating and regular boosters are part of your pet’s routine healthcare, which help to protect your pet against infectious disease. The appointment also gives an opportunity for the vet to carry out a full health check. Happily most pets go home with wet noses and wagging tails, and for the owners peace of mind that their much-loved pet is in good health.

The primary vaccination course can begin at eight weeks old for puppies, and nine weeks for kittens. Protection is also available against Kennel Cough, which we recommend for dogs that attend training classes, are exercised where close contact with other dogs is common, or spend time in boarding kennels.

Reception and Waiting Room

We offer a high level of client service, so you can be assured that our friendly and experienced staff will provide an attentive and caring manner at all times. For those arriving for an appointment, you will find our waiting area spacious and welcoming to help make your visit a little less stressful while waiting for the vet or nurse.

Routine Healthcare

If you are unsure of which flea, tick or worming product to choose, our nurses and vets are only too happy to discuss, which type would be suitable for your pet and show you how to administer them. Maintaining these regular treatments is so very important, as these irritating parasites can cause major skin irritation and other health problems if not dealt with quickly and effectively

Westwood Nurse Clinics

Our highly experienced Veterinary Nurses, offer a wide range of free services that are beneficial to your pets well-being. In addition to this our nurses can perform microchipping, suture removal, second vaccinations and nail clipping. Extra support is at hand for those owners whose pets are diabetic. Elderly pets can visit for tips on special care in their senior years. Bring your puppy or kitten in for their six-month health check, to ensure they are developing correctly. Guidance is given on worming, flea treatments, nutrition, exercise, and for those pets needing to lose a little weight, there is help for that too. Our nurses can even show you how to clean your pet’s teeth! Information is also available on PETS Passports and insurance. So pop along to our Free Nurse Clinics
