Cheviré le Rouge
Le Grenier - Dog Friendly Accommodation in Loire Valley, FranceLe Grenier which seems to date back to the 1200's provides both peaceful accommodation and breathtaking views over the valley, fields and forest. Cheviré Le Rouge is unspoilt by commercial development, but big enough to supply hot croissants for breakfast, fresh bread for lunch and patisseries for dinner. Now Le Grenier has accommodation on two floors with bedrooms to accommodate up to 9 people. All rooms have been refurbished but still retain their original exposed beams. There are two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, and family bedroom with a double and a single. There are two bathrooms and a separate toilet.
Le Grenier has a fully-fitted kitchen including oven, hob, fridge-freezer and microwave plus a range of storage cabinets. A Godin wood-burning stove not only provides heat but also is a feature within the stone fireplace, which is backed with hand made terracotta bricks. Hot water for the house is provided by a 300 litre electric water heater. Electric heaters downstairs provide additional heating to the two wood-burning stoves.
What could be better than to relax and explore the delights of the Loire Valley from the comfort of an old stone farm house? Set in an exceptional position on the south western edge of the small pretty village of Cheviré le Rouge.
Outside of Le Grenier is a quiet road which leads to miles of forest, ideal for cycling, walking or a picnic in the nature reserve. By the entrance to the forest are tennis courts, a lake for fishing and an area for boules. Early in the morning you may see the wild red deer that inhabit the forest. Apart from being a haven of natural beauty, where the air is clean and the surroundings tranquil, it's also not too remote. You may need groceries, a hairdresser and a post office, these too are all within a five minutes walk. By car, you can be in the local town of Baugé where you will find more shops and a large supermarket, or at one of the many local restaurants in as little as 10 minutes.
The garden, of about 1,200 square metres, is laid mainly to lawn, there are fruit trees, including a cherry, pear and several mirabelles. The front of the house is superb in late spring, with a 10 year old wisteria, and a large clematis over the entrance to the cave. On the side of the house is a large orange campsis that flowers from July.
Le Grenier boasts an external natural wood staircase leading to a veranda and balcony, from which you can gain access to and from the master bedroom. The veranda is a superb place to enjoy lunch or dinner, or simply to relax into the evening with a glass or two of wine. In the wood store you will find a charcoal BBQ. From the balcony and veranda there are wonderful views over the valley, Chateau La Roche Hue and the surrounding countryside.
Adjacent to the house is a small stable block that stores logs and garden furniture to seat eight.
Here you will also find two mountain bikes. Use of this equipment is at your own risk.
The region is famous for its Chateaux and you can enjoy a view of Chateau le Roche Hue from the balcony and veranda.
