Wolfwood Rescue

Here at Wolfwood, we are devoted to the rescue and rehoming of the least wanted dogs from the area and are constantly expanding our work with Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation. Our district covers Lancaster, Morecambe and the ever -increasing surrounding area. We operate from just outside Lancaster and recover orphaned, injured and displaced wildlife, give them sanctuary and nurture them back to health, in the hope that eventually they can be released.

Founded in early 2007, Wolfwood rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured and displaced wildlife and rehomes rescued and unwanted dogs from the local area. Our work is expanding as we take on any challenge; caring for the injured wildlife until they can be safely released. We have a good working relationship with local vets and RSPCA Officers; some of our dogs and wildlife are from a wide catchment area.

We are a very small, very busy rescue and frequently have many dogs needing new homes. Plenty of advice and support are part of our personal and friendly service. We work on a one to one basis and tailor each individual dogs need to prospective new owners. Each dog leaves with full support from Kirsty, our Dog Behaviourist. Some dogs are easily homed, while others require significant commitment from new owners and take more than the required two visits and time together before we are happy to let them go. The dogs are all wormed, fully vaccinated, neutered (if old enough), routinely treated for fleas and Identi-chipped. A donation towards covering this cost is greatly appreciated.

Wolfwood is a small centre which is fast outgrowing the current temporary premises. In early 2013 we acquired some land which we have been using and are looking to provide our own kennel facility and expand the wildlife area and pens. If you are able to help in any way, please contact us.

Our charity shop in Lancaster is very popular and the income generated is vital to the continuation of our work.

We have the support of our local vets, and the dedication, enthusiasm, knowledge and experience, to move forward. Wolfwood draws on qualified training and fifteen years experience of rehoming a wide range of animals. We have a good working relationship with our local Dog Wardens, Vets, the Police, Dog Behaviourists, Dog Pounds and Animal/Wildlife Rescue Centres in various parts of the country.

Wolfwood receives no funding; any help towards our significant outgoings will be greatly received.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us.

“Six years now since we got our Staffie Tevez from Steve at Wolfwood. In that time Tevez has become my best friend. We had free support at first from the trainer who gave us very good advice, which worked. Wolfwood are always there with support if needed. We support them how we can but can't do as much now due to ill health. Tevez has learned several things very quickly including wiping his feet when he comes in, knowing exactly what I am going to do next and when it is walk time. He has changed my life thanks to Wolfwood. Oh, and as the RSPCA Chief Vet said, 'people who think Staffies are dangerous, are looking at the wrong end of the lead'. ”
