The Swan -  Dog Friendly Inn in Tarporley, Cheshire

The 16th century Swan has been welcoming guests through its doors for over 400 years, and was once a convenient resting place for those travelling the 200 miles from London to Chester. Today, our charming and unique rooms and welcoming bar and dining areas mean that The Swan continues to be a haven for the local community as well as visitors from far and wide.

The Swan has been owned by Si and Chrissie Lees Jones for over 25 years and is run by Cheshire operator Woody Barlow and his team at Bear Inns. Refurbished during 2020, the Swan is enjoying a renaissance….a wide selection of drinks, freshly prepared foods showcasing many locally produced ingredients and above all a warm welcome await.

Some of The Swan’s most historic features are located in the Tarporley Room. A unique room welcoming up to 100 guests for business or pleasure. The room has been hosting some of the finest parties in the county since 1762.

A regular winner of the Best Kept Village award, Tarporley appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. Back then, Tarporley was home to just eight households, but today is one of the largest villages in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, with antique and curiosity shops, craft and gift stores and some of the finest fashion boutiques and spas in the county.

Further afield, the surrounding Cheshire countryside is a leisure playground. Superb walking along the Sandstone trail and Beeston Castle or stunning cycling routes up through Delamere Forest are ideal for active guests.

For golf enthusiasts, there are 10 courses within 20 minutes drive time and Oulton Park racetrack is less than 3 miles away. Within 10 minutes of the Swan are other attractions such as the Shire Horse centre at Cotebrook, a number of local ice cream and cheese farms (we’re in dairy farming country) and Blakemere village.
