Fistral Beach – Dog-Friendly Surf Beach, Newquay

Fistral Beach is located just west of Newquay and is one of the most famous beaches in the UK. Known as the home of British surfing, it offers a huge expanse of golden sand, backed by grassy dunes and cliffs. With powerful Atlantic waves, excellent facilities, and year-round dog access, it’s a top spot for both surfers and dog walkers.

Dog Access & Restrictions
Dogs are welcome on Fistral Beach all year round with no seasonal restrictions. They can be off-lead, but must be kept under control. The beach is spacious, giving dogs plenty of room to run, especially early in the morning or later in the evening.

Beach Features & Surf Scene
Fistral is a wide, west-facing beach that catches consistent surf throughout the year. It has multiple surf peaks, making it suitable for beginners and experienced surfers alike. At low tide, the beach opens up significantly, offering great conditions for walking and exploring.

It’s also a popular venue for major surf events, including national and international competitions, and has become a hub for the UK surf community. The northern end even features Cribbar Reef, known for producing some of the UK’s biggest surfable waves.

Facilities & Access
There’s a large car park close to the beach, along with toilets, showers, surf shops, and equipment hire. The beach is also home to several popular food outlets, including cafes and restaurants with sea views. Access is straightforward, with paths leading directly onto the sand.

Safety & Lifeguards
Lifeguards are on duty from April to early November. As the sea can be rough and the waves strong, swimmers and surfers should stay within the flagged zones and follow lifeguard guidance. Dogs should be watched closely near the water’s edge.

Visitor Experience
Fistral is ideal for a full beach day—surfing, walking, relaxing, or dining with sea views. It’s lively during the summer, especially during surf events, but also perfect for quiet early-morning strolls with your dog during the off-season. The South West Coast Path runs nearby, offering beautiful walking routes and panoramic sea views.
