Polgwedhen Lodge – Self-catering Holiday Cottage in Chacewater, Cornwall
Enjoy peace, seclusion and privacy in your own Cornish hideaway at Polgwedhen Lodge. Set at the end of a private lane and surrounded by farmland and countryside, this stand-alone retreat sits on the banks of a private ornamental lake within lightly wooded gardens. It’s warm, cosy and designed for quiet, relaxing breaks close to beaches, walking and cycle trails, and many of Cornwall’s best-loved attractions.
Inside, the lodge features a fully equipped open-plan kitchen and comfortable living area, a double bedroom with a romantic handmade four-poster bed, and a shower room with W.C. Maximum occupancy is strictly two people, with the option of one infant in a guest-supplied cot. This makes Polgwedhen a perfect choice for couples seeking a tranquil escape.
The grounds are a highlight: private gardens sweep down to the water’s edge, where aquatic plants such as water lily, day lily and iris thrive. The planting includes camellias, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, massed spring bulbs and ornamental shrubs, with mature trees like copper beech, walnut, sycamore, wild cherry, ash and oak creating a beautiful, natural backdrop.
Wildlife lovers can listen for woodpeckers and owls across the valley, watch waterfowl on the lake, and may spot deer, foxes, badgers and heron. Binoculars are thoughtfully provided. In summer, take the little rowing boat for a gentle trip around the lake and a different perspective on this peaceful setting.
Polgwedhen Lodge is dog-friendly, with a pet fee that works out lower per day the longer you stay. Minimum stay is three nights, with occasional shorter breaks when offered. The location places you within reach of beaches, gardens, golf and renowned destinations including the Eden Project and Heligan, as well as excellent walking and cycling routes.
For a quiet Cornish cottage set in nature — secluded, peaceful and close to so much — Polgwedhen Lodge offers a relaxing self-catering base for two in the countryside, near Truro.
