Our cottages are the perfect base to explore all of the treasures Eskdale and the surrounding area has to offer. Close by is the beautiful, deep, Wastwater Lake, England's deepest at 79 metres, and about 3 miles long. Also near is the majestic Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England and one of England's most scenic hikes.

Pet Friendly Holidays in Eskdale
At Bridge End Farm Cottages we recognise that many visitors wish to bring their 4 legged family members with them on holiday - with this in mind we have five cottages in Eskdale which are pet friendly: The Farmhouse, Wastwater Cottage, Hardknott Cottage, Stanley Ghyll Cottage and Wrynose Cottage.

We don’t encourage guests to leave their dogs unattended in our gardens as we have a lot of children playing so we cannot let guests leave dog poos in the gardens because they haven’t supervised their dog.  We need dogs to be on leads and supervised.

Only well behaved adult dogs. No puppies or dogs under 1 year old. The Farmhouse and Wastwater Cottage can take 2 well behaved dogs. Hardknott, Stanley Ghyll and Wrynose can take one well behaved dog.

What you can expect from your dog friendly getaway:
All dogs need to be booked in on our booking form. There is a dog charge of £35 per dog per week or part week as we put in dog treats, throws for our Italian leather sofas, dog towels for dirty paws and we do an extra special clean afterwards. We have dog rules in our T’s & C’s that guests need to adhere to as we have both dog friendly and dog free cottages and communal gardens where children play.

As soon as you step out of your cottage door, dog walks abound! Easy walks, hard walks, steep walks, walks along rivers and lakes, quaint lane walks and much more.

There is a dog poop bin in Boot village and many places in the Lake District have the bins for you to put your doggie poos in.

Most pubs in the Eskdale valley accept well behaved dogs on a lead and they all have beer gardens.
The Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway (5 minutes’ walk from the cottages) has carriages in which you can take your dog, so head off to Ravenglass for a dog run along the beach or to Muncaster Castle or any other of the stops along the way where you can take your dog for a long walk.

The Farmhouse (sleeps 8 + cot)
Set aside with its own private walled garden, the luxury five star Farmhouse holiday cottage forms part of Lakeland history. As you step inside, you will be amazed to see the original flagstone flooring, 16th century Queen Anne court cupboard, and a hearty wood-burning stove, in which peat off the local fells would have been burned to keep the farmer and his family warm!

Today, we have our new wood burning stove in the lounge and a supply of dry wood for our guests to use as well as full central heating to keep you cosy and warm.

Wastwater Cottage (sleeps 7/8 + cot)
Brace yourself as you enter the magnificent 45ft living area of this character 4 bedroom Lake District cottage perfect for families and groups of friends!

A remarkable restoration has resulted in this four bedroom cottage retaining fantastic, exposed, pink granite feature stonework throughout. Downstairs vaunts an enormous 45ft living and dining area with exposed beams and baby grand piano beneath its full height ceiling.

During the original renovations, we had to bring in additional beams to the kitchen and dining areas, simply so that the weight of the heavy slate roof tiles could be supported. You will now see these criss-crossed above you! Upstairs, where the workers used to live, hundreds of years ago, exhibits an ancient chimney and its recess. With a brand new kitchen installed in early 2018 and two ground floor double bedrooms, one downstairs family bathroom and one ensuite shower room, this cottage is ideal for those guests who may require or prefer ground floor facilities.

Hardknott Cottage (sleeps 2 + 1)
Retreat from the world in this comfortable, romantic cottage with gallery bedroom. Extremely popular with honeymooners, couples and those with a young family. This cottage has space for a foldaway bed or cot for a little one.

The cottage is named after Hardknott Fell, on which both Hardknott Roman Fort and England’s steepest pass are located. Similarly, Hardknott Cottage, your next holiday hideaway, has a lofty high ceiling and a back door opening onto our lawned paddock with lovely fell views. Open and airy on the inside, yet private and sheltered from the distractions of modern day life, with its solid stone walls and uncontested fell views, you won’t be settling for second best when staying here!

Stanley Ghyll Cottage (sleeps 2)
Picturesque and private detached one bedroom Eskdale cottage, with a beautiful marble shower room, and luxurious kitchen. The perfect cottage for couples.

Named after the Stanley Ghyll 60ft waterfall, a pleasant walk from Bridge End Farm, in like manner, this cottage is a unique feature of the Western Lakes with very few detached cottages for two. Slightly secluded, in the village of Boot,

Stanley Ghyll is a favourite of many of our guests, many of whom come back for their holiday year in, year out, some even twice a year, to experience the striking contrast in Lake District scenery between the seasons! Stanley Ghyll Cottage also has a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, making it suitable for disabled guests or those with limited mobility.

Wrynose Cottage (sleeps 2 + 1)
Romantic one bedroom cottage in the Lake District, plus cot or fold away bed, perfect for a couple or family with a young child.

With 500 year old beams, kitchen and bathroom with gorgeous slipper bath and separate shower also recently remodelled, you can wake up to the sight of Esk Fell up above and admire your stunning surrounds without having moved your head an inch from your pillow!
