Fantastic dog swimming spots

Great castle views

Lovely village with dog friendly pub

A really special 5km walk around the Lowther estate; riverside paths, castles and lost garden doors! Plenty to keep the kids and dogs entertained! Start in Askham village or Lowther castle, the walk takes about an hour and a half.

There are some great spots along the river for dog dips (just be careful if its been raining as the river rises quickly especially near the weir) some parts can have sheep grazing too. Dog poo bins and parking in the village, plenty of nice cafes on route as well.

From Askham village follow signs for Askham hall (cafe and poo bin) where you can buy a copy of the trail. Continue along the bridleway then cut accross the field footpath into the woodlands. This winds around and down to 2 bridges accross the Lowther. Cross these then either follow the river back or continue up the road to Lowther castle then back through the estate to Askham village.

“we went on a wet mid February day but despite the rain enjoyed the castle walk.rhe cafe is good nice food. not a cheap outing £9 per adult in the castle and about £30 for drinks and snacks for 3 adults. lovely setting everything well looked after kids should love the hidden castle play facility in the forest ”
