Barking Mad - Dog Home Boarding in Derbyshire
Hi, my name is Louise and I run Barking Mad, Chesterfield across all areas of Chesterfield, South Sheffield, including Alfreton, Bolsover and Dronfield providing customer's dogs with a holiday experience that they will enjoy while their owners are away. I understand that it can be a stressful experience for owners to be separated from their dog(s) while they go on holiday and this will increase if it is felt that the dog is not necessarily going to be happy. I am committed to matching each individual dog with a host that suits their needs and all my hosts are happy to look after the dog as they would be looked after at home. A full pet schedule is prepared so the host is aware of all the dog's requirements including walking, feeding and likes and dislikes. This enables the dog to settle quickly into a new environment. Transport is also included within the service which means that there is one less thing to organise at the start and the end of the holiday.
I ensure that dogs are treated as individuals as they all have their own needs and personality and it is important that these are taken into account when providing their care. My hosts all have a lot of pet care experience but they don't necessarily want to commit to the full time responsibility that having their own dog entails however they miss the companionship and exercise that having their own dog provides. They have 24 hours/7 days a week support should there be any problems. A photo is sent to owners following the dog arriving at the host's home and a text the following day in relation to how the dog is settling in.
I have previously owned 2 Border Collies and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and prior to starting this business I had over 3 years hosting experience with Barking Mad so I have first hand experience of looking after dogs who are away from their owner and think this enables me to understand the needs of dogs at this particular time. I personally have hosted a large number of dogs of all sizes and ages successfully and enjoy meeting dogs and their owners. It is my aim to provide dog holidays which are enjoyable for the dog and if the owner knows the dog is being well looked after, then they are able to relax and enjoy their own holiday and have peace of mind.
So call today to arrange your precious dog's next holiday!

Who’s who - It’s really important to get to know you and your dog, especially in the beginning. We’ll come to you and over a cup of tea you can tell us all about your day-to-day routines for feeding and exercising so we can replicate this for your dog. We’ll chat about likes (usually a lot), dislikes (usually the postman) and any healthcare requirements. By the second chocolate digestive we’ve started to understand your dogs’ individual needs and lifestyle. By the end of our meeting, which usually takes around an hour, we’ll all be getting along famously.
Oh and don’t worry, we love dogs of all shapes and sizes, pedigree, Heinz 57 or rescue. They can sleep in the bedroom, pull on the lead, or even hide your favourite socks. As long as they are friendly we’ll get along just fine.
Holiday home - Selecting the right host family is very important and your input into this process is invaluable. You will want to know where your dog is going, so during our time together you are going to see all of our dog-loving families. They are just like you and me, and guaranteed to meet our extremely high pet sitting standards. Together we’ll make the right choice, and you can decide whether your best friend stays in a home with or without a resident dog, depending on his needs.
5 Star - Our service includes door-to-door, chauffeur driven transport for your dog. Being collected from home is far less stressful, and completely overcomes the anxiety caused to dogs when left behind by their owners. Our experience has shown visiting dogs settle more quickly with their home comforts around them including bed, food, toys and treats, arranged as they would be at home. In no time at all, they’ve become part of the family, with their paws placed firmly under the table.
Our hosts are at home during the day to ensure round the clock care is always provided, especially where puppies, dogs on regular medication and senior citizens are concerned. We’re in touch with our hosts regularly, so we will keep you posted during your time away about anything you need to know.
The best bit for us is seeing dogs happily settled-in and comfortable with their host. We will, wherever possible, be sure to use the same family each time you book a holiday. There are no minimum or maximum time limits, we’re here whenever you need us.
Trial Stay - We’ll arrange a short stay in advance of your main booking so that when you’re away you can relax knowing your dog is having as good a time as you are!
Leave it to the experts - There’s no point having a dog and barking yourself, we do all the hard work so you don’t have to. No tedious form filling, laborious visits back and forth to meet various people; a simple phone call is all that is required.
“Louise is very easy and friendly to deal but more importantly my dogs love Louise and her daughter. I know that they are keen to go with Louise as on their last weekend away they were in the car before I even knew Louise was at the house. Although we love the dogs as any dog owner knows they are a huge commitment and this service gives us some time away and we are confident knowing that they are being cared for in someone's home and have no hesitation recommending Louise and her hosts.”
