The Coach and Horses – Dog Friendly Pub in Danehill, East Sussex

Since 1847, The Coach and Horses has served the communities of Danehill and Chelwood Gate. First as an Ale house but now as a country pub and restaurant, serving award winning food alongside traditional pub classics. The traditional pub bars remain and are busy with not only locals but new faces lucky enough to have discovered the charm and quality of this Sussex pub on the edge of the Ashdown forest.

About us The Coach and Horses

The Coach and Horses is a family run, traditional, unspoilt free house in the heart of the Sussex countryside, that prides itself on retaining that cosy, comfortable pub atmosphere whilst offering a dynamic, seasonal menu of locally sourced produce.

The pub is within easy distance of the towns East Grinstead and Haywards Heath, East Grinstead and only 20 minutes from Gatwick Airport.

Being a free house we pride ourselves on the quality of our real ale and concentrate on local brewery’s such as Harvey’s of Sussex, Hammerpot brewery and Dark Star to name but a few, we have just started stocking a local farmhouse cider from The Black Pig Orchard in Danehill as well as offering award winning English sparkling wines from the Bluebell vineyard just up the road.

Our food is cooked to order, using fresh, seasonal and where possible locally sourced ingredients. We change our menus regularly and have a daily changing specials board apart from on a Sunday when we run a larger, more traditional menu.

We’re in a beautiful spot just on the edge of The Ashdown Forest and our gardens boast stunning views of the Sussex Downs. The front garden benefits from a childs play area to the top of the garden and the ‘adults only’ terrace is very popular for its peaceful qualities and shade of the vast maple tree.

Dogs are welcome in the bars and bar areas of the restaurant and we have a dog free zone in the main restaurant.
