The Playden Oasts Inn - Dog Friendly B&B in Rye, East Sussex

The Playden Oasts Inn, is one of the very few Oast house's open to the public, due to most being converted to private properties.

The Oast believed to have been built in 1800, has had a varied history. Once owned by the Mathews family, it was used as a working Oast house to dry locally grown hops for the production of real ale. During the Oast's life, it has survived two fires: one being on bonfire night 1970 and the other in the early 80's due to some soldering of copper pipes being done in the attic.

The Mathews family sold the Oast in 1971 for a mere £9000! Throughout the years, the Oast has been a private motel then later becoming the hotel it is today. Run by Business Director/Owner/Manager Kim Raymond.

Boasting many of the original features, including the impressive roundels themselves, the Playden Oast offers a unique hotel experience in the heart of the East Sussex countryside.

You can choose from eight traditionally styled, en-suite bedrooms including two large round bedrooms in the centre of the building.

The Roundel Rooms (No dogs allowed)
Rooms 3 and 4 are King Sized Roundel Rooms with an unusual king sized round bed.
These rooms have views out over the grounds, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and TV. Iron available on request.
Maximum occupancy of 2 people.

Ground Floor Rooms (Dog friendly)
Rooms 8 & 9 are our budget Rooms, in an outside annex.
These are double en-suite bedrooms, with TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer. Iron available on request.
The rooms are on the ground floor and dogs are allowed in these rooms. Free WiFi.

Double Rooms (No dogs allowed)
Rooms 5 and 6 are standard double rooms with en-suite bath and/or shower and views of the beautiful garden.

Both rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, TV, and hairdryer. Iron available on request.
Maximum occupancy of 2 people.
Dogs are allowed in these rooms.



The Garden Room (Dog friendly)
Room 10 is a double en-suite room with shower.
It's situated on the ground floor with its own small rear garden. Dogs are welcome.
There is a TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Iron available on request.

Food & Drink
We have 2 delightful restaurants (one of which is pet friendly) within our establishment offering a wide range of locally sourced dishes, along with traditional Sunday roasts, we are sure to cater for all your culinary desires. We also offer an extensive Bar menu which is always available.

Whether it be fresh Rye Bay fish, Romney marsh lamb, Sussex reared beef, or a vegetarian dish our head chef produces dishes that will definitely satisfy your taste buds.



We are open all day, every day and our food is served:
Lunch 12noon - 3pm & Dinner 6pm - 9pm (last orders 8.45pm)
