Welcome:
Cheltenham Animal Shelteris a charity that has been helping animals since 1926. We provide kennelling for stray dogs from two councils: Gloucester City and Cotswold District.

We take in rescue dogs from Gloucestershire Constabulary as well as rehomingdogs, cats and small animals from owners who can no longer look after them for a variety of reasons. Small animals we often have in our care include rabbits, gerbils andguinea pigs.

The mission of Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association and Cheltenham Animal Shelter is:

“to provide shelter for homeless domestic animals from across the county whilst attempting to locate appropriate new homes. We also aim to educate members of the public and professionals in correct and appropriate animal husbandry through education programmes”.

We are a member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes and we adhere to, and exceed, their code of practice. In doing that we are very careful to ensure that each and every animal goes to the right home.

As the shelter has its own on-site Veterinary Surgery, all the animals receive the veterinary treatments they require immediately. Your support ensures that this level of care can continue, giving homeless animals that arrive at the shelter the best possible care until loving new homes are found.

“We had Charlie off you in 2011 he was a staffie and very loved by you all a the shelter. When we collected him we made a promise that we would look after him and that we did. He went on all the holidays with us he loved his ball and he was wonderful with my grandchildren. Last year towards the end of year Charlie became very tired all the time and stopped wanting his walks and then he would pick up but didn’t seem to have as much energy. In 9 months and lots of vets appointments we had to say goodbye a day after my birthday which has now been 4 months heartbroken is an understatement the whole family were devastated. I would like another dog but I really don’t think I would never get such a faithful one as Charlie and I can’t go through the heart break again my heart aches so much xx ”

“We got an amazing westie from your rescue five years ago. You called him Toby but he was our Sam. He had skin cancer which your vets cleared thru surgery and over the years he has had numerous ear infections and his cruciatal ligament went. Throughout it all he was a real little gent. Unfortunately we lost Sam on Nov 11th 2016, we are so very proud to have had him in our lives. Thank you for rescuing this little chap and allowing us to have him . When our hearts have healed a little more we will be back to give another little one a home. Thank you x”
