Uig Sands - Dog Friendly Beach in Valtos, Highland
The beach at Uig is located in the south west corner of Lewis and is reasonably sheltered, despite its westerly aspect.
There are good facilities for visitors, including a campsite and a strong historical association.
This is where a full Viking chess set was discovered, 93 ivory pieces buried in a beach-side chamber.
It's another reminder of the strong Norse links to these islands, as their origin has been traced to Trondheim, in Norway.
