Brian’s Cottage - Dog Friendly Cottage in Honing, Norfolk

Designed with dogs in mind!

Brian’s Cottage is a 1930’s bungalow with some original features in a rural idyllic location, surrounded by fields. Along the edge of the garden (but hidden from it so your dogs won’t be bothered by passers by) a footpath leads to the church and connects with a maze of further paths including the Weaver’s Way and the North Walsham and Dilham Canal, where the surrounding meadows are a site of special scientific interest.

On the far side of the field edging the end of the garden there is a large badgers sett and we are regularly treated to sights of red deer, roe deer, muntjac, as well as hares, tawny and barn owls, buzzards, kestrels and other birds of prey. On our bird table we have regular visits from a greater spotted woodpecker. The cottage sleeps 4 and has a private enclosed south-west facing garden from which you can watch the sunset year round.

Outside The Cottage
There is a gravelled area with outdoor furniture, rainbow Indian sandstone patio with outdoor dining furniture and parasol.  Many relaxing hours can be spent out here! There is a lawned area and a flower garden. The entire garden is fully enclosed by six foot fencing and gates. The footpath to the gate at the end of the garden allows you private access to the church footpath, so walks straight from the garden! There is a shed too if you want to bring your bikes (up to 4) plus a chimnea and gas barbecue for those long summer evenings.  And, by the side of the house there is a lovely warm dog shower for those muddy paws and sandy bits!

In the local area
We have several pubs nearby all dog friendly. The Butchers Arms is 0.8 miles away at East Ruston and can be accessed along a quiet country lane.  Cross Keys, Dilham, Crown, Smallburgh and the White Lady at Worstead.

Reviews

“We had a fabulous relaxing week. The cottage was unbelievable dog friendly and the best we have experienced in the eight years of having dogs. The welcome and the goodies left were amazing it was so good we have already booked for next year”

“Just been for our 2nd visit to Brian’s Cottage and it really didn’t disappoint. Liz and Tim have a lovely well equipped cottage with gorgeous gardens with far reaching views with everything and more that you could possibly need for your stay. A freshly baked bread and cake we’re waiting for us on arrival, along with homemade jams, fresh milk, tea, coffee, butter, eggs and a bag full of goodies for our little pooch. They really do go above and beyond this lovely couple. Can’t wait for our next visit ”

“This is my dogs review, a 13 year old Labrador that adores visiting Brian's cottage and the stunning surrounding countryside. Easy walks straight from the door or a 5 minute drive to the beach and 10-15 minute drive to Bacton Woods. The treats and comfort provided are a five star rating; Paddling pool, outside shower, toys and beds. My own doggy bag to take home. What more could a dog want? Perfect hosts of course. ”

“We love this cottage so much, we are going back in June for our third visit. Such a peaceful setting, yet close enough to beaches and the Broads. Lovely and clean with a fully enclosed gardens for the dogs. Ultra dog friendly and the best hosts at hand if needed. We love it!”

- Julie

“Our favourite place! A beautifully decorated, homely cottage with spectacular views across the fields and a fabulous large, secure garden for the dogs. Liz baked a most delicious cake for my arrival and provided treats for the doggies from Nero’s Kitchen. I highly recommend Brian’s Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday, you won’t be disappointed! We loved our stay there a year ago and sadly have missed out on two visits due to lockdown. But we are booked in for New Year! ”

“We all love it here! Walks straight from the back gate into beautiful Norfolk countryside, large secure garden with amazing sunset views (sitting on the patio furniture enjoying a sundowner of course), and easy access to dog friendly beaches, cafes, shops and towns. Local historical sites also welcomed our three. That’s just what we did during the week! On arrival we were greeted with cake, bread, tea and coffee, eggs, milk and local produce grown in the garden next door. Oh and a selection of homemade dog biscuits. A large, comfortable sofa meant we could put our feet and paws up at the end of the day with tv and WiFi provided. And the owners didn’t mind the dogs sleeping in the beds - although the dog bed provided was so good that we bought an identical one once home. We have two more visits already booked this year and next. We cannot wait!! ”
