Normandy Vacation Rental (Band of Brothers House)
Dog Friendly Historic Town House in Normandy, France
This is a historic 4* house located in the 1st village liberated on D Day is only a mile & half from glorious sandy beaches and the world famous Utah Beach. Called Band of Brothers House in honour of the Easy Company photographed right outside our front door on 7th June 1944!
We have so much on offer - not just for the dog but for those interested in the incredible history here including the D Day Invasion, we are also in the heart of a National Park with miles of walks, 1,000 kilometres of coast, Bayeux 30 minutes away, boat trips to see dolphins & seals, Mont St Michel just over an hour away, museums, Jeep Tours, restaurants, fishing ports, elegant French Boutiques, antique shops, markets and during the summer masses of fetes!
Available for weekly rent with shorter breaks available in the quieter months, we are in Normandy, France, in a fantastic location right on the village square of Sainte Marie du Mont with restaurants to one side and an Oyster shop the other! Cafe and Bar, Butcher, Baker and even a hairdresser all a stones throw from the front door!
With three spacious bedrooms, 2 with super-king sized beds an ensuite and family bathroom, there is more than enough room for 5 or 6 at a push as the 3rd bed is a large single/small double... but the house is also perfect for couples too, we ourselves sneak an odd break away with our own fur family! With additional cloakroom downstairs, we really have tried to make the best of this perfect retreat.
The house is pet-friendly. The garden is enclosed, they cannot get out and leads straight into the kitchen where the claret red AGA lives, with a Hug Rug in front, just great for a dog on holiday! If there is not enough room in the car to bring your dog bed, one can be supplied for you. With being just 1 mile from Utah Beach, where dogs are allowed all year round, (between May - September must be on leads), fabulous for early morning walks, if no one is around then I let mine have a good run - the evenings plenty of little walks around the lanes at the back of the village…there is even a green right opposite the house around the church, naturally you need to pick up anything left behind! Some beaches locally where leads are not required and some fantastic walks in the countryside, plus the Chemin Verts, the old Railway Lines converted to bicycle and pedestrian walks, you can let them off if they have good recall, I’m very happy to share where to go. We can even recommend a vet that speaks perfect English for the passport return journey too.
This three-hundred-year-old property has been lovingly renovated to give modern living a holiday home with everything you need with home from home touches.
The House is cleaned and made ready for your arrival, the beds are made for you, towels, dressing gowns, tea towels. All the services WIFI, water, heating, electricity, paper goods, even down to dishwasher tablets and naturally the end of stay clean are included in the price.
About the House.
Located right opposite the world famous Sainte Marie du Mont Church, the view out the bedroom has been described as one of the best in France... you can lie in bed looking at the ornate and unique bell tower, but do not worry the bells stop during the night!
Upstairs on the 1st floor 2 bedrooms, partitions were knocked out to create the most gloriously proportioned master bedroom, plus a 2nd small double or large single along with a family bathroom, shower, double sink unit plus a loo.
A separate staircase leads to next floor which is a self contained super-king sized bed with ensuite.
Downstairs we have created an open plan living area, a lounge with a fireplace where we installed a very efficient wood burner, leading into the dining room and onto the kitchen with the Aga then out to the very sweet high walled garden with BBQ and patio...also downstairs a utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and a separate loo.
Best of all open the front door, one side you have shellfish shop selling oysters and moules direct from Utah Beach, so by just walking the length of the corridor you can return to the dining table with a dozen oysters for less than £5 - (fresher than any oysters possible as these come less than 4 miles), people come from miles to but these specialist oysters! The other side, 2 restaurants to choose from, across the street a local butcher, 2 bakers in the village, even a hairdresser...
We've tried very hard to beautifully present the house, with restored antique furniture, handmade curtains, even embroidered towels, along with all the things a traveller will appreciate like top quality linen on the beds, big fluffy towels, towelling dressing gowns & a hair drier with some puff and naturally we don’t forget the 4 legged member of the family!
“We had a perfect time at the Band of Brothers House and were warmly welcomed by Tansy on arrival who acquainted us with the house and the historic village. We found the house perfect for our needs, fell in love with it and the village too. There was so much of interest around for us to pursue and Tansy was very helpful providing us with a vast amount of information about the whole area. The house itself is beautifully decorated, perfectly clean and comfortable with every amenity. The garden is lovely. It is a walled garden and very secure for our dog. The outdoor seating area is an added bonus. There is an excellent butcher's shop and boulangerie just a short walk away. You can buy the freshest mussels and oysters from the shop next door and there are two excellent restaurants adjoining. Everything is close at hand! I thoroughly recommend this property for anyone looking for a peaceful and interesting location in the Normandy countryside and close to the invasion beaches. We have certainly already recommended it to our friends!”

“From a lovely welcoming from the owners we could see the property was living up to the promising photos. Very comfortable bed and loved having the bells awaken us at 7 knowing that we could then choose to jump up or have a lazy lie in. We had taken our bikes and spent many days exploring the DDay beaches and surrounding area. luckily the hall way was large enough to accommodate the bikes as there is no rear access to the garden. The kitchen was well equipped making it a pleasure to prepare meals and with an excellent butchers, bakers and moules shop so close we found one trip to the supermarket was sufficient for our two weeks. And on the nights we didn't want to cook or travel two lovely eateries within a few yards. We have visited the area before and always find new things to see and do but having such a fabulous base made it a pleasure to return to or spend that lazy rainy day in.”
