Sara Abbott – Pet Portrait Artist
I have been painting professionally for 20 years. Unique in the fact I visit my clients nationally to meet and photograph their animals, my works hold not only the necessary likeness but by meeting my subjects I’m able to paint their soul and character, an obvious important ingredient in my works.
Ranging from the disciplined, ‘Formal oil on Canvas’ portraits, I also offer ‘Loose Sketches on Paper’ and an ‘A3 Minis in Mixed Media’. A style and budget for everyone.
Most importantly, I donate part of my fee to dogs in rescue in your dog’s name, £100 from the Formal works, £25 from the Loose Sketches and £5 from the A3 Mini works, please visit the charity page of my website to see past campaigns. I’m eternally grateful to all my clients over the years, together we have sent £1000s to the front line of dog rescue.
A studio move now has me located in Shropshire, but I continue my visits to clients for private commissions around the country, so distance is absolutely not an issue. I am able to meet and do photoshoots outside and so can carry on my work following safety guidelines re covid.
I’ve been commissioned to paint 100s of dogs over the years. The responsibility for creating a piece of work that will become a family heirloom, lasting more than a lifetime, is one I take very seriously.
I’m often asked to create posthumous portraits where a meeting is not possible, in this instance a telephone conversation with the client about the character and working from a selection of photos available allows me to connect with dogs no longer walking by our sides.
Formal Oil on Canvas
These works are created in oil and spray paint, the most popular size is 60 x 60cm and I use a deep edge canvas, taking the colour around the sides, the work is delivered ready to hang.
In addition to the formal portraits I am pleased to offer loose sketches on fine artists paper, also created using oil and spray paint with pencil detail, these works are approx. 50 x 60cm. For these works clients need to send a suitable photograph. The finished paintings are supplied rolled in a tube and need framing by the client under glass.
A3 Mini, Mixed Media
These little works are just smaller versions of the Loose Sketches, so I need a suitable photo to work from, again they are sent rolled in a tube ready for you to frame under glass.
For all of the above a 50% deposit is required to secure a slot in my work schedule, there is currently a three months waiting list. Please send me a message and I can let you have a full pricing details.
“Sara painted a beautiful portrait of my labrador Max. He left this world far too soon and this portrait was done posthumously but Sara captured everything about him perfectly. I love being able to see his gorgeous face every day now. Thank you so much Sara.”

“Sara is the most amazing artist. She somehow captures the living essence of her subject, you expect them to move! She captured the characture and spirit of my greyhound, along with his smile. I treasure his portrait.”

“ I have been following the progress of this remarkable Artist for the past 10 years. Her work is renowned thoroughout the world and I am pleased to own 5 of her painted cows, they have hung in my house and been admired by friends. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting a portrait, her love of animals has lead Sara in the direction she takes today of capturing the sprit and soul of every animal. You will not be disapointment. ”

“Dear Sara Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the most beautiful and stunning portraits that you did of Willoughby and Daisie for my husband's birthday. I am sat here trying to find words but Andrew's face when he finally got through all the packaging 😊 was absolutely priceless, filled with emotion and speechless! - I will never forget that moment. You always seem to capture the spirit of the animals you're painting and I think that's because you take the time to personally photograph them and get to know them and that goes into your work. I can see every hair on their head, every glint in their eye and I can 'feel' them - the texture of their fur, the softness of their ears, and their floppy chops as my husband says. Something we will have and treasure forever! You have been an absolute pleasure to work with, thank you for helping me keep the secret for months, it has been worth every second and every penny. I hope you don't mind but I've posted pictures and a link to your website on my FB page and also on Westcountry Beagles and Beagle Talk UK pages. Keep in touch, all the very best, Lots of love, hugs, woofs and licks! Julie, Andrew, Willoughby and Daisie xxxx ”

“I too, am a dog/cat potrait painter. I love your backgrounds and the expressions on the dogs. We need to get more love in this world- and a potrait of a happy loving dog on the wall goes a long way to creating that~”
