The Elsted Inn - Dog Friendly Pub in Midhurst, West Sussex
Situated in the exquisite South Downs National Park; The Elsted Inn is a characteristically delightful English Countryside Pub. Gareth and I have recently taken over; and we are already immensely proud of award winning real ales, sumptuous homemade food, comfortable B&B rooms….and our enthusiastic team!
Our menu changes regularly, depending on what is available and freshest at market, and reflects the very best of what West Sussex has to offer. Much of our meat comes from Rother Valley Organic Farm, just down the road in Rogate and we source most of our dairy products from the renowned Goodwood Estate. We even have our own local gamekeeper! So, depending on the season, you’ll find pheasant, venison, guinea fowl or rabbit all taking their places on the menu.
We pride ourselves not only on the quality of the food, but also on the variety of the menu options. Countryside food is diverse due to the bountiful produce available, and when I think of Countryside cooking I think of my childhood home’s stove full of a variety of pots and pans with loads of different foods cooking away. As such, I aim to make our menu flexible for all tastes, and full of natural, different ingredients, of course including vegetarian options.
Our rooms feature Tempur mattresses, down pillows and duvets, en suites, luxury toiletries, flat screen TVs and a complimentary freshly ground coffee and tea service. Our downstairs rooms (1 twin and 1 double) are easy access, and are dog friendly. We have two upstairs rooms (1 twin and 1 double); with beautiful views of the South Downs.
The upstairs double room also has a balcony, and we are very happy to bring over a bottle of wine for customers who would like a quiet glass on their veranda before having a meal inside the pub. We are also pleased to accommodate other requests wherever possible, such as: booking taxis (prior notice is advised), breakfast at flexible times, providing specific items (ironing board, lacto-free milk, packed lunches etc.).
Gareth, Thais, and Charlie have also employed a team of local, young, talent; whom they are keen to develop and train in the hospitality trade. Thais: ‘We are already making a name for ourselves as enthusiastic, accommodating, and friendly; and we are all very proud of the achievements of the whole team. We definitely have a great working atmosphere; and I strongly believe that this also positively heightens the customers’ experience.’
