The Dog Studio

The Dog Studio - Canine Hydrotherapy and Dog Grooming in Swindon, Wiltshire

The premier dog therapy centre on the outskirts of Swindon

THE DOG STUDIO is an established, family owned facility, devoted to canine exercise, performance and conditioning.

We are committed to working with you and your Vet to ensure the best possible treatment to help your pets enjoy a full and active life, whether they are recovering from surgery, injury, illness or maybe just needing to keep fit or lose a little weight.

Canine Hydrotherapy and Dog Grooming

We work beyond UK regulations and codes of practice to ensure we provide the highest quality service to dog owners. By developing and implementing practices and procedures above industry standards, Veterinary Surgeons, Pet insurance companies and most importantly pet owners can be confident the treatment received at THE DOG STUDIO is the very best available.

Our Facilities
Unlike other facilities, we operate a combined Hydrotherapy facility,
offering the leading edge techniques in treatment. Combining treadmill, pool and spa activities results in the fastest and most thorough rehabilitation response.

promote muscle relaxation

Our Pool

Our fully equipped custom built indoor pool measures 8 by 15 by 4 feet deep and is heated to around 29 degrees centigrade. The pool is equipped with 2 anti-swim jets, which are adjustable for both flow rate and direction. Entry & exit is provided by gentle ramps or an electrically powered hoist. Pool water hygiene is critical and we regularly and methodically test and record water results to ensure correct
chemical and pH balance.

Even though your pet may be a natural swimmer, we provide and fit flotation jackets to all patients. We work one to one with your pet and will always have a Hydrotherapist in the pool with them. We encourage owners to participate in all aspects of the exercise session although owners are not allowed into the pool itself. You can take pictures or video and we actively encourage you to offer lots of words of encouragement. You are the key partner in your dog's well being and your dog will appreciate your presence.

combining warmth and massage

The Spa
The Jacuzzi Spa helps promote muscle relaxation and healing by combining warmth and massage. The period of time in the Jacuzzi Spa is matched to the time worked in the pool. Stretching and ROM (Range of Movement) exercises recommended by our staff, third party physiotherapists or your Vet can be performed in the Jacuzzi Spa for added benefits.

The warmth and circulation of the aerated water relaxes the skin, fascia, and superficial muscles, allowing the massage therapist to perform deeper massage. The buoyancy of the water relieves weight and stress on the joints of the limbs. Blood vessels dilate heart rate and pressure drops and the dog relaxes, allowing for the speedy removal of lactic acid from the tissues, helping condition the muscles. The Jacuzzi Spa is also beneficial for paralysed, post-surgery or injured dogs that do not want to bear weight on a limb. Dogs with neurological disease also derive significant benefits from the Jacuzz Spa.

Underwater Treadmill

The Underwater Treadmill
The Tudor Treadmill we have is the most modern, up to date treadmill available. Able to take any size dog it has a computer to hold all the information we need to provide the best treatment plan for your dog. Each programme is designed by us and each client is treated as an individual. This programme is then saved and can be adjusted each time we use it. The treadmill is ideal for dogs that need to build up muscle, improve their fitness or lose weight.

The big advantage for using the treadmill is that we can provide plenty of floatation initially, then gradually reduce the amount of water in the treadmill, so allowing your dog to take more weight through his paws. This is a bit like walking from the deep end to the shallow end in a swimming pool... Just brilliant!
