Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Thornton in Lonsdale, just outside Ingleton in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Marton Arms is everything a country inn should be; welcoming, family friendly, dog loving and serving great value, delicious food.

An independently owned freehouse, you’ll find warm hospitality, home-cooked food, comfortable accommodation and a relaxed atmosphere, whether you’re joining us for a holiday, dining with us for a meal or just dropping in for a drink and a chat at the bar while you’re out walking or cycling with family and friends.

With a backdrop of Ingleborough, one of the challenging Three Peaks, we overlook the charming St Oswald’s parish church, a favourite of Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Canon Doyle’s, who married his first wife here. From here you can explore the Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales and The Trough of Bowland.

Just relax here with us here in the garden or by the fire. After all, we have 50 different gins to try as well as our hand-pulled cask ales, so don’t rush off – stay a while where the fun begins!

Strong advocates of ‘field to fork’ fayre, our talented chef and friendly team take pride in serving sustainably reared neighbouring farm produce with 100% local provenance.

Dine al fresco on the terrace or in the beer garden overlooking the church where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, was married.

Meanwhile, on chillier days the cosy fire is toasty and welcoming.

Our local village, just 10 minutes’ walk away, offers many unique gift shops, outdoor clothing wear shops, cafés and more. There is a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool, a climbing wall, a fantastic play area for the kids, the famous waterfalls walk, show caves and special events all year round.
