Ideal for those wanting to get away from it all, Rough Top is situated in a quiet hilltop area with stunning views, plenty of walks including The walk to Redmires Waterfall & we are on the Pennine Cycleway. We are within easy walking distance of Bridestones Rocks, a popular haunt for climbers and scramblers.

If you’re interested in venturing off the hillside, we are situated above Hebden Bridge and are a short drive away from Haworth, the home of the Bronte Sisters and Keighley + Worth Valley Steam Railway. Halifax town hosts the world famous The Piece Hall , Eureka Children’s Museum and Shibden Hall home of TV’s Gentleman Jack.

We are also a 28 minute train ride from Manchester city centre as well as being easy distance for a day out in Leeds, York + Harrogate, Skipton or Blackpool.

Nature Garden
The nature garden has been left wild for the birds and small animals that frequent our gardens. Look out for the bird boxes and the swallows who return each summer to next in and around the stables.

There is a bug hotel hanging on the stable wall. Rabbits and hedgehogs frequent the garden and yard and look over the fence into the fields you may see curlew and lapwings, hares and the occassional passing deer.

In the early night time hours you will hear the owls and bats which live around us and up in the rocks across the road.

As dog owners ourselves we realise how important it is that your dog also enjoys his stay at Rough Top Cottage. Our welcome pack includes your dogs very own treats! We supply everything we can to make your dog feel at home. An emergency kit box has bowls, leads, coloured dog towels, throws & poo bags in case you forget anything.

We even have a large crate, for crate trained dogs, that you can hire but to make him feel at home please bring his own bed. Outside is a coldwater hose with shower head so you can wash your dog on returning from a walk.

The garden, which is fenced to make it private so you and your dog can relax, has garden furniture so you can sit and relax whilst your dog plays.

New: free use of 1/2 acre dog friendly exercise paddock.

“We’ve been to Roughtop twice with our Irish wolfhound and little whippet cross and are planning another visit next year as we had such a wonderful time. The cottage is equipped with everything you need, beautifully clean with lovely furnishings and has gorgeous views over the countryside. You really feel like you are in the midst of nature and get a great view of the sunsets and stars on a clear night. The dog paddock is such a bonus which our girls loved chasing around in and the cottage has plenty of space for them too so they settled in very quickly. Sandra is such a lovely welcoming host who lives close by should you need anything at all. There are lots of dog friendly pubs to visit in the area and great walks too. Highly recommend Roughtop for a wonderfully relaxing dog friendly break. ”
